Hi, my name is Kathy Calhoun, I am the Owner and Operator of Calhoun Pet Care. If you are considering me for taking care of your pets, then you probably want to know more about me. I have always loved animals and started to take a special interest when I was very young. I grew up back east, in a rural area of PA. We always had several pets and I knew that I would end-up in a career that allowed me to care for animals. I have had pets my entire life and have always treated them as part of the family. I currently have 3 cats of my own, ranging in age from 6mo to 16yrs old. I have experience as a professional pet sitter and dog walker. Before starting my own company, I was a dog walker and pet sitter for another service. I loved every minute of it, but thought I would like to give more personalized service to my clients. So I started my own pet-sitting company... it was the best decision I ever made. (Well second best, marrying my husband is first :) Prior to that I worked at The Helen Woodward Animal Center, where I worked at their Pet Hotel/boarding facility. I was responsible for the care of guests, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and on occasion reptiles and pocket pets. I assured that the exercise schedules, feeding instructions and medical charts were all accurate and to clients' specifications.
I am also very involved in animal rescue and adoption. I have been a volunteer for Rescue House for 5 years and it gives me great satisfaction. I initially got involved as an animal caretaker. Caring for the animals at our adoption centers. Little by little, I took on more tasks and responsibilities for the homeless animals. I began helping at the adoption events, caring for the cats and advising people interested in adopting. Then I began fostering in my home, taking in rescued cats and assuring they get proper medical care and of coarse lots of love. I now am a Foster Team Lead, where I not only care for my own foster cats, but oversee and mentor several foster homes and up to 40 cats and kittens. ( Oh, I still do all the other stuff too). As well as spoiling my own cats rotten.
I was trained by a veterinary nurse and am familiar with giving all types of medications. I am also Dog and Cat CPR and First Aid Certified through the American Red Cross.
